The Royal Rumble 2017 went down as one of the most memorable of all time. Here are five other dramatic Royal Rumble moments.

WWE’s Royal Rumble 2017 had much to live up to, and it emphatically delivered. With breathtaking moments and mind-blowing plot twists, the event was one of the most-watched pay-per-views in WWE history. The Rumble is called the first stop on the road to Wrestlemania, because the winner of this historic thirty-man match is guaranteed to main event wrestling’s biggest event of the year. All they have to do is be the last one standing, with all 29 opponents thrown over the top rope of the ring.

Some of wrestling’s most iconic moments have occurred at the Royal Rumble. To refresh your memory, here are five of the greatest moments and records from the road to Wrestlemania:

1. Rey Mysterio, 2006

The high-flying wrestler kicked off the Rumble in the number-two spot and lasted the duration of the match—just over an hour in the ring. He set the record for the longest time any wrestler lasted in the match, WWE notes. In sharp contrast, the superstar with the record for the shortest time in the Rumble is Santino Marella, with one second in 2009.

2. Mick Foley, 1998

This Rumble marked the only year that the same man entered the match three separate times. The three personas of Mick Foley—Cactus Jack, Mankind, and Dude Love—all competed that year. Sadly, none lasted through the end.

3. Ric Flair, 1992

According to Forbes, the WWE superstar with the highest quality of Royal Rumble eliminations is “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair in the 1992 Rumble. This was calculated using a weighted formula that determined the caliber of the opponents eliminated and time spent in the ring.

4. Chyna, Beth Phoenix, 1999 & 2010

Chyna and Beth Phoenix were the only two women to ever enter a Royal Rumble, in 1999 and 2010, respectively. Beth Phoenix had several memorable eliminations, including a kiss with The Great Khali that ended up with him going over the top rope.

5. The Undertaker, 2007

Marking the first time in WWE history that the 30th entrant of the match was victorious, The Undertaker took the title in the 2007 Royal Rumble, WWE explains. In the match, he defeated his long-time rival Shawn Michaels in one of the most electrifying match-ups the WWE Universe ever witnessed.

Royal Rumble 2017 featured some of the biggest superstars of all time, including The Undertaker, Goldberg, and Brock Lesnar. But they were no match for the Wyatt family, and ultimately the newest Wyatt member, The Viper Randy Orton, stood victorious after eliminating Roman Reigns.

This year’s road to Wrestlemania is an exciting one for WWE fans, and Royal Rumble 2017 was an explosive start.
